ABOUT COLLECTING JAPANESE PRINTS
Collecting Japanese Prints is a haven for all those who share our deep appreciation for Japanese woodblock prints and paintings. Since we have come from a background of collecting—beautiful things in general and Japanese woodblock prints in particular—we want to offer a place for kindred spirits to feel understood and inspired by our carefully selected offerings and our educational content.
Since our opening, Collecting Japanese Prints has distinguished itself as one of the world’s leading galleries in fine Japanese art. A large portion of our acquisitions are sold privately. Please contact us if you don’t see what you are looking for in our curated online selection—chances are we can find that special work for you.
We make buying Japanese prints easy. Our diverse Japanese art catalog and offline holdings include work from all genres—Ukiyo-e, Meiji, Shin Hanga, Sosaku Hanga, and Contemporary, as well as a selection of Western artists who worked in Japan or otherwise follow Japanese print-making techniques. Some of the artists we have (or have had) include Azechi, Hasui, Hamaguchi, Harunobu, Hashimoto, Hiroaki, Hiroshige, Hokusai, Hoshi, Inagaki, Kiyokata, Kogan, Koitsu, Koizumi, Koson, Kotondo, Kunisada, Kuniyoshi, Maki, Mori, Munakata, Nakayama, Onchi, Saito, Sekino, Shinshui, Shiro, Shoson, Shunsen, Teraoka, Toraji, Toyokuni III, Tsunetomi, Watanabe, Yamaguchi, Yoshida, and many more woodblock print and painting artists.
Elias Martin is the founder and owner of Collecting Japanese Prints. He is a member of the Ukiyo-e Dealers Association of Japan and holds the distinct pleasure of serving as a member of the Board of JASA (Japanese Art Society of America). As a dealer, curator to private clients, and educator with over 25 years of professional experience, Elias has helped build important private collections and has placed works at notable public institutions. He is passionate about educating both his clients and the public on the fine art of woodblock prints in the Ukiyo-e, Shin Hanga, and Sosaku Hanga traditions, as well as on Japanese post-war painting.
CJP IS A HAVEN FOR ALL THOSE WHO SHARE OUR DEEP APPRECIATION FOR JAPANESE WOODBLOCK PRINTS AND PAINTINGS.
BUYING JAPANESE PRINTS—CURATORSHIP IS PARAMOUNT
We have tremendous love and respect for the artwork we exhibit and offer. If we are not proud of the impression, condition, or aesthetic quality of a work of art we simply won’t carry it. All the artwork on our Collecting Japanese Prints site, videos, or in our social media channels are pieces we would gladly own ourselves. Rest assured, if a print comes from Collecting Japanese Prints, it has been closely vetted for condition and artistic quality.
Our team closely monitors the international marketplace, including public auctions and private sales, for important works of art and lesser-known masterpieces in order to offer the best quality at competitive prices.
CollectingJapanesePrints.com is a community built on a real connection with the people who value and follow what we do. Our research and educational content are borne from this connection. We consider ourselves ambassadors for the artists who are no longer with us and for the rich culture and history that fostered Japan’s most important print and painting artists.
